January 15 - Focus on Food via film "Wasted!"

The January, 15th Batavia Plain Dirt Gardener's meeting will include the movie "Wasted" which is a story of food waste and the way we can move to be more conscious of choices as we buy, cook, recycle and eat foods.  According to the film jacket, the film focuses on "some of today's most influential chefs and how they make the most of food by transforming what most people may think of as scraps into incredible dishes that create a more secure food system".  Learn how to make small changes that will help solve the food waste problem at your own home as well as lead to larger contributions to our planet.

6:45 pm social time and gathering
7:00 pm short business meeting
7:15 or so, "Wasted"

December Holiday Potluck Gathering

Our December meeting will be our traditional Holiday Potluck gathering.  We will meet on December 18th at 6:45 pm at the Batavia Public Library.  We will share a meal together, have a "white elephant" exchange, a raffle of some new gardening items, and our own Sarah Kimber will share a short 5 minute presentation on the wildflower sanctuary.

To participate in the white elephant exchange, we ask that you wrap up something that a gardener would use or something related to gardening or plants or hanging out on the patio/porch.  If you are unfamiliar with the concept, a White Elephant exchanges usually means to bring something you already have at home but no longer want or need (maybe a gardening book you never use anymore, an extra garden tool , a pair of gloves that are not your size, candles or a plant or something for the patio that you did not need but have in your "stash" of things, or any other re-gift possibility that you just cannot see yourself using any more as a gardener but think that another gardener might like).  Please wrap the item (even in a newspaper is fine!).  We will have them all on a table and everyone will get to pick one out from the bunch of them brought to the meeting.  The fun is in watching someone else have fun getting your item.  These are not to be an expensive item, this is just for fun.  If you do not bring one, no worries.  We have a few extras that are being brought in case they may be needed.

For the potluck, please bring an appetizer, salad, or dessert to share.  The club will provide drinks, chicken roll ups, plates, silverware and cups.  Sue is going to do her famous nut cups and a sparkling grape juice drink to get us started for the evening.

We hope you will join us.  This is always such a treat to get to visit with each other, share some crazy gift items, and enjoy the goodies each person brings to the table.
