Our meeting will be at 6:45pm at the Batavia Public Library at Wilson and Route 31.  We will begin with a social gathering and short meeting to be followed by our speaker.  Nancy Weiss sent me the following about May's meeting, sounds like a good one!!!!

Don’t Miss our meeting!

Our speaker, Trish Beckjord, will be talking to us about native plants . . . WHY it is important to use them, WHERE to find them . . . and HOW to use them!

Trish has had extensive  experience in the field of Ecological Garden Design!  . . .

She earned her Masters Degree from the University of Michigan School of Natural Resources and Environment . . . She worked  several years for a Landscape Architecture firm in Michigan and then for an Ecological Design Firm in Naperville Illinois.

She joined the Midwest Groundcovers staff in 2012.

As part of her work at Midwest, Trish consults with Midwest customers who are interested in using native species in designed and restored landscapes.  She lectures frequently on the value of the integration of native species and native landscapes!

.. . . Trish is also experienced in sustainable storm water management design. . .  (including rain gardens, bio-retention swales, and green roofs) . . . and, in small-scale ecological restoration!

Our sale went very well.  I believe we still have some receipts rolling in but it the last email I saw had us at about $4,078 in profit which is great.  The plants looked great and thank you everyone for your hard work!!!

Next June is our garden walk.  That means the committee forms and meets this year so we can preview and choose (if necessary) gardens.  We are losing some of our core members and we really need some new blood!!! If you are interested in joining, please email me at  Also, let me know if your garden or a garden you know of should be considered.  Thanks so much, Kris Harper-Kaminski

Plant Sale HELP NEEDED!!!!!

Sally Janunas needs help digging plants for the plant sale, please contact her at 630.842.3422.  We really need to get plants out of the ground and into pots ASAP!

The sale is coming up in just over a week.  It is on Saturday, May 10 and we need help Friday night setting up and Saturday morning before, during and after the sale.  We have so many less volunteers this year that, frankly, we are starting to get worried that we will no longer be able to hold our sale!  Please take a moment and call Sally to help in her yard or call Sue Robles at 630.820.1461 to volunteer in some capacity, no matter how small!

Thanks so much!
